Last updated 10 September 2026. Device warranty terms version 9. Returns and refunds are covered separately in our Returns and Refund Policy.

Every device we sell is covered. Who covers it, and for how long, depends on the condition it was sold in.

What you bought Warranty Who honours it
Brand New device 12 months from the invoice date The manufacturer. JRTech logs the claim and handles it with the manufacturer or its authorised service centre for you.
Open Box device 6 months from the invoice date JRTech store warranty
Pre-Owned device 3 months from the invoice date JRTech store warranty
Repairs 90 days on the replaced part(s) JRTech workmanship warranty
Cases, screen protectors, cables, chargers, other accessories and gift cards Not covered by the device warranty Faulty on arrival? Tell us within 7 days and we will exchange it or otherwise put it right.

The warranty applies to the exact unit whose IMEI or serial number appears on the invoice, and it is not transferable. A replacement device supplied under warranty carries the unused remainder of the original warranty period, or 30 days from the date of replacement, whichever is longer, and its IMEI or serial number becomes the covered unit.

What the condition labels mean

Brand New devices are factory sealed and never activated. They carry the manufacturer's warranty.

Open Box refers to devices sourced primarily from U.S. retailer or carrier returns that are no longer sold as factory-sealed units. These devices have typically been opened, activated, briefly used, or returned shortly after purchase. At JRTech, Open Box devices usually do not include the original retail box. Unless otherwise stated, our Open Box devices:

  • Are fully tested and verified to be functioning correctly
  • Are in new or like-new cosmetic condition
  • Have 90%–100% battery health at the time of sale
  • May have been previously activated or briefly used
  • May show very minor signs of handling
  • Typically do not include the original retail packaging
  • Include the essential accessories specified at the time of purchase

Open Box devices are not refurbished or repaired devices unless specifically disclosed.

Pre-Owned devices are used devices that JRTech has fully tested and graded on cosmetics. The grade describes the outside of the device only; every pre-owned device works fully. See how we grade.

What the store warranty covers

The JRTech store warranty on Open Box and Pre-Owned devices covers hardware faults that were present at the time of sale or that develop through normal use, such as a display, speaker, camera, button or logic board that stops working without any external cause.

Brand New devices are covered by the manufacturer's own warranty. The manufacturer's terms decide what is covered, how the device is assessed, the remedy offered and how long the process takes. JRTech does not control the manufacturer's decisions or timelines, which commonly run to several weeks, but we log the claim, send the device in on your behalf, keep you informed and hand the outcome over to you.

How a covered fault is handled

  1. Assessment. JRTech inspects the device first. Where a covered fault is confirmed, the assessment is free.
  2. Repair. A confirmed fault is repaired by JRTech.
  3. Replacement. If the repair is not technically or economically feasible, if the parts required are not available within a reasonable time, or if the same fault returns after repair, JRTech replaces the device with an equivalent unit: the same or a comparable model of equal or better specification, in the same or better condition grade, chosen by JRTech. Colour may differ depending on stock.
  4. Credit note or refund. If no equivalent unit is available, JRTech may instead offer a credit note or a refund, at its option.

JRTech decides which remedy applies. Where a covered repair is taking an extended period, we may offer a replacement or another remedy instead.

Inspection at purchase

You are given the opportunity to inspect the device before leaving the store: that it powers on, and that the screen, cameras, buttons, speakers and charging port work. Open Box and Pre-Owned devices are sold in the cosmetic condition shown to you at purchase; scratches, scuffs and marks that were visible at sale are not warranty faults. Please tell us about any concern with the device's condition as soon as possible, ideally within 48 hours of purchase, so we can put it right quickly. This does not limit your statutory rights.

What the warranty does not cover

  • Opening or tampering. A device that has been opened, disassembled, or had its seals, screws or tamper markers disturbed by anyone other than JRTech. We record the device's internal condition and may apply tamper indicators at sale. Evidence of opening or tampering ends the warranty, regardless of the fault being claimed.
  • Drops, cracks and physical damage. Damage caused by drops, impacts, pressure, bending, crushing or any other accident, including cracked or scratched glass, dented or bent frames, damaged ports, and internal damage consistent with impact. A fault that results from physical damage is not covered, even if the damage looks minor or seems unrelated to the fault.
  • Liquid and environmental damage. Damage from any liquid, including water, rain, sweat, drinks or humidity. A triggered liquid contact indicator or corrosion inside the device is treated as liquid damage, even on a device rated as water resistant. Damage from extreme heat, cold, sand, dust or chemicals is not covered.
  • Repairs by anyone else. Any repair, part replacement or firmware modification carried out by another shop, technician, or by you. If you believe the device has a fault, bring it to JRTech first.
  • Chargers, cables and power. Use only a certified charger and cable suited to your device. Non-certified, counterfeit or cheap aftermarket charging blocks, cables, power banks, car chargers and faulty wall outlets can damage the charging IC, charging port or battery. Charging-related damage, and damage from power surges, lightning or an unstable electrical supply, is identifiable on inspection and is not covered; any repair will be quoted as a new job.
  • Software, accounts and battery. Software faults, operating system updates, app issues, jailbreaking, rooting or unlocking attempts. Account locks arising from your own Apple ID, Google, Samsung or carrier credentials, which JRTech cannot bypass. Battery wear through normal use: on Open Box and Pre-Owned devices the battery health shown to you at purchase is accepted as disclosed, and on Brand New devices battery performance is a matter for the manufacturer's warranty.

Carrier barring and blacklisting

JRTech buys its stock on a guaranteed-clear basis: our suppliers warrant that the devices they sell us are not reported lost or stolen and carry no unpaid balance, and we check the stock we take in. In the unlikely event that a device is barred, blocked or blacklisted by a carrier within 12 months of the invoice date for a reason that already existed before the sale, bring it back to JRTech and we will work with you to put it right. We will check the device's status and where it came from ourselves, and may ask you for the carrier reference or correspondence relating to the block.

A replacement under this section matches the device as it stands at the time of the claim, not as it was when new: a comparable model and specification in comparable condition, including accumulated wear such as battery health. If no comparable unit is available, JRTech may instead offer a credit note or refund reflecting the device's condition and age at the time of the claim. This does not cover a device blocked because of your own account or arrangements with a carrier, including unpaid bills, a financing or contract balance you owe, or a device reported lost or stolen after the sale.

Making a claim

  • Tell us as soon as you notice a fault and bring the device in promptly. Continuing to use a faulty device can make the damage worse, and a fault reported long after it was first noticed is harder to attribute to the device as sold.
  • Bring the device and your invoice to JRTech within the warranty period. The invoice and the matching IMEI or serial number let us confirm the unit and its coverage.
  • Remove any account lock before we can assess the device, including Find My iPhone, Activation Lock, and Google or Samsung account locks, and give us any passcode needed to test it. We cannot assess a locked device, and time spent waiting for it to be unlocked does not count towards how long a claim takes.
  • Back up your data first. JRTech takes reasonable care but cannot guarantee against data loss during inspection or repair, and a replacement device will not carry your data across.
  • Open Box and Pre-Owned devices are inspected before any warranty work is done. If the inspection finds an excluded cause, such as physical, liquid, charging or tamper damage, the store warranty does not apply and any repair is quoted separately.
  • Assessment is free where a covered fault is confirmed. Where the assessment finds an excluded cause, or no fault with the device, JRTech may charge a reasonable assessment fee before returning it.
  • We aim to assess a device within a few working days of receiving it. Most covered repairs are completed within a few weeks, and longer where a part has to be imported or where a Brand New device is with the manufacturer. These are typical timeframes, not guarantees.
  • If we have one available, we may offer you a loaner phone while your device is assessed, repaired or with the manufacturer. A loaner remains JRTech property, must be returned when your device is ready, and is your responsibility while in your care, including for loss or damage.
  • Please collect your device within 30 days of being told it is ready. If it is not collected within 90 days, and after we have contacted you on the details on your invoice, JRTech may charge reasonable storage.

JRTech often helps beyond what these terms require. Anything done as a goodwill gesture, such as a repair outside the warranty period, help where an exclusion applied, a loaner or a discount, is offered case by case at JRTech's discretion and does not create an entitlement for any later claim.

Signing your warranty terms

After you buy a device from us, we email you a secure link to read and sign the full warranty terms for your invoice, section by section. Please sign within 30 days; we send a reminder on day 3 and day 7 if it is still open, and you can also sign in store on the day of purchase. The signed acknowledgement, your invoice and the recorded IMEI or serial number are what we use to honour your warranty. If you did not receive your link, contact us and we will resend it.

Repair warranty

Repairs carried out by JRTech carry a 90-day workmanship warranty on the replaced part(s) only. It excludes physical damage, liquid damage, drops, misuse, software issues unrelated to the repair, and any device opened or serviced elsewhere after our repair. Water-damaged devices are serviced at the owner's risk: corrosion is progressive, and a later failure of a repaired unit is not covered. Diagnostic or assessment fees, where quoted, remain payable even if you decline the repair. Devices left uncollected for 30 days after the completion notice may incur storage fees, and after 60 days may be sold or recycled to recover costs. The full repair service terms are shown to you for signature when you book a repair.

Limits of our responsibility

Where a claim is covered, JRTech's responsibility is limited to repairing the device, replacing it with an equivalent unit, or issuing a credit note or refund, as set out above. JRTech is not responsible for indirect or consequential loss arising from a fault, a claim, or the time a device spends being assessed or repaired, including loss of income or business, loss of use of the device, the cost of a replacement or rental phone, missed appointments or opportunities, and any charges you continue to pay your carrier. Except where the law provides otherwise, JRTech's total responsibility in connection with a device is limited to the amount you paid for that device.
